Retrieving Data From a Laptop That Recently Crashed

Ever wish you could recover your old pictures, docs, or music from your crashed laptop? Some data recovery is easy and most people wish that they could and the thing is that they can. A beginner can do what I'm about to tell you so get ready to write these things down that I leave in "". Make sure you have a "Anti-Static Band" handy. Anytime your dealing with computer components you always want to have this handy to avoid
damaging anything.
OK I'm going to start out with a customer's laptop that died. This customer bought this laptop to me to recover the data from the hard drive. The first thing I do is check to make sure the laptop turns on. It doesn't the customer said they spilled water on it. Now I flip the laptop over so I can see the bottom of it. Most laptops have a square-shaped cover on the bottom with a little picture of 3 little disc. This will be the cover that houses your laptop's HDD. Now I remove the back square-shaped cover off and remove the HDD. Now what you will need now is whats called a "SATA to USB Adapter" or "IDE to USB Adapter" or "Laptop HDD Enclosure" SATA or IDE. You can find these on Ebay for less than $10 dollars. This article assumes you can tell the difference between a SATA and IDE HDD. If not you can find images on Google. OK this customer wants all the media, pictures, and docs recovered. So I hook the HDD up to my desktop via the "SATA to USB Adapter". Windows recognizes the new HDD and installs the drivers for it and the "Auto Run" menu pops up. Its-Alive! Now I open the HDD in "My Computer" I go to each user account and siff through "My Pictures, My Music, My Documents. I then retrieve the data from each account and save it to an external HDD that the customer has provided. This part can be very tedious depending on your computer speed. Next I called the customer and let them know that their data was ready for pick up. Easy wasn't it? Most people don't realize that most repairs can be done in-house.
Well that's it and I hope this was an easy venture for you. I also hope I explained it well enough for you. This article was brought to you by Emergency PC Repairs
